When one thinks of the Portuguese, the word ` food` springs to mind…and not just simply `food` but…GLORIOUS FOOD ! At this year` s Caravela Festival, held at Montecasino from 29th June to 1st July, you will experience an unrivalled smorgasbord of culinary delights to tempt your eyes and stomach. There are a host of restaurant-driven food stalls and trucks, each providing the hungry visitor with a choice of a wide variety of mouth-watering Portuguese meat, fish and vegetarian dishes as well as a delicious selection of tempting cakes and confectionaries to satisfy even the sweetest tooth.
Some of Gauteng`s top Portuguese foodies including Adega, Belem Bakery, Bem Bom @ Cabana, Frangalo, Churasco, Taskinha and many more will be cooking up a storm for thousands of visitors all day long. Your taste buds will explode with happiness as you sample the flavours of juicy prawns, chicken and beef espetada, Leitão (pork), chouriço, traditional sardinhas, Peixe Espada (swordfish) and Caldo Verde (green soup), which you can mop up with some pão from the Portuguese bread truck. Satisfy your sugar craving by indulging in some Farturas (cinnamon & sugar fritters) and Pasteis de Natas (custard tarts) to mention a few.
You can wash this repast down with a selection of vinho verde, poncho (punch), Portuguese beers and caipirinha in one of the many tents as well as in the Social Lounge where you can chill (or dance) or simply munch on a prego roll.
